Behind
“I’m Fine”

What lived experience can teach us about hidden mental health struggles at home and at work

Someone can be struggling with their mental health and still go to work, see friends, make jokes, achieve things and tell you:

“I’m fine.”

Drawing on his own lived experience of depression and anxiety, Neil Kelders will explore what we can miss when someone appears to be coping, why people hide what they are really experiencing, and what helps someone feel safe enough to speak honestly.

WHAT WE DON’T SEE

The Invisible
Weight

“You can laugh, work, talk to people and still be struggling far more than anyone realises.”

Mental health struggles do not always look like crisis.

Someone can keep turning up. They can perform well, make plans, support other people and say all the right things.

And still be struggling privately.

That gap between what we see and what someone is actually experiencing is where things are often missed.

This webinar looks at that gap from the inside.

What We’ll
Explore

What We Miss

How someone can appear to be coping while struggling internally, and why distress is not always obvious.

Why People Stay Silent

What can make someone hide how they are really feeling, even when support is available.

What Helps Someone Speak

The responses, questions and conditions that can make it easier for someone to be honest.

What We Can Do Differently

Practical lessons for parents, managers, colleagues and anyone supporting someone who may be struggling.

LIVED EXPERIENCE

What I Couldn’t Say Then

For years, I lived with depression and anxiety while appearing to function normally from the outside.

I went to work, saw people, made plans and said “I’m fine” while hiding what was really happening.

That experience now shapes how I speak about mental health.

Not from a clinical perspective, but from the inside: what people hide, why they stay silent, what others miss, and what can make it easier to finally speak honestly.
